Sleep: The Most Underrated Performance Enhancer

Sleep is when your body repairs tissue, consolidates learning, and rebalances hormones. Skip it and every other effort suffers.

The Performance Cost

A Stanford study found athletes who extended sleep to 10 hours showed improved sprint times, shooting accuracy, and reaction times. Even one night of 4 hours of sleep can reduce strength output by 10-20%.

Optimize Your Sleep

1. **Consistency** - Same bedtime and wake time, even on weekends.

2. **Darkness** - Blackout curtains or a mask. Light disrupts melatonin.

3. **Temperature** - 65-68°F is ideal for deep sleep.

4. **Screens** - Stop blue light exposure 90 minutes before bed.

5. **Caffeine** - Cut it by 2pm. Half-life is 5-6 hours.

The 7-9 Hour Rule

Most adults need 7-9 hours. Athletes in heavy training may need 9-10. If you wake without an alarm feeling rested, you have found your number.

No supplement, no program, no biohack replaces sleep. Get this right first.
